On Sunday 16th June 2013, Team Hope will be running in the annual Race For Life in Chantry Park, Ipswich. Race for Life in Cancer Research UK’s flagship event, with more than 230 events taking place across the UK. The event raises money Cancer Research’s groundbreaking work to help save more lives.

Angela Hope, a pre and postnatal fitness specialist based in Ipswich, is leading the 18 members of Team Hope around the 5km course and training has already begun in earnest. The majority of Team Hope are new mums who have had a baby within the last two years, including Angela herself.

“Most new mums desperately want to ditch their maternity jeans as soon as possible after giving birth but this is rarely realistic due to the time pressures of family life. I wanted to give these ladies the support and motivation they needed to get fit and have fun while giving something back to the community and raising money for a good cause.”

Friends, family and clients make up Team Hope, all with their own personal reasons and goals for taking part. This year the race is taking place on Father’s Day which is particularly poignant for Angela, as it has been 20 years since she lost her own Father to the disease. “Joining me in the race this year will be my two sister’s, Sarah and Alison, and we will all be running in memory of Dad.”

Angela provides two free training sessions during the week and an early Sunday morning run for those who have been running for a while, using the Kesgrave 5km route. “Once the evenings are lighter the training sessions will move to Christchurch Park and Chantry Park so we can practice running up some hills!” Angela has also written a 5km beginner’s training plan to support the team, which is available to download for free here…

“The team camaraderie has been building over the last few weeks. New friendships have been made and seeing how much these ladies have achieved already is truly inspiring. We have also planned some social events including pre-race drinks and a post-race family picnic, so that all of our supporters can be part of the team.”

The team have already raised over £250 for the charity but they would love to raise more so if you would like to sponsor Team Hope then you can visit their fundraising page http://www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/team-hope-ipswich
