Saturday 25th October 2014 - 8km
Every Saturday morning at 9am, is parkrun, and if you haven't come across the national/international phenomenon that is parkrun, then where on earth have you been???
parkrun is a weekly timed 5k run, held all over the country at 9am. The very core of parkrun is its community spirit. It is one of the only events where everyone can run, all levels, shapes, sizes and ages, together without judgement. And what's more, you are greeted at the finish line with coffee and cake. Along with a core team, a group of volunteers help ensure that the event runs smoothly. There is something highly addictive about waiting for that text that gives you your time, and if you get a parkrun PB, then that is very special day.
I am very privileged that a new parkrun has just been started right on my doorstep in Kesgrave. Today was event #6 and so far I have been ever present. I have already made some new friends, and had my turn at marshalling. I leave my house at 8.30am, run 1.5k to the start line, run parkrun, which incidentally, runs past my front door, have a coffee with my friends, then run the 1.5km home. An 8km run done and all before 10am.
Today was a particularly special one for me. The weather was beautiful for an October morning. It was my 10th ever parkrun and I got to run with a particularly talented 8 year old, Jessica Read, who paced me to a parkrun PB and got her own PB.
