The key to staying on track with a healthy eating regime is preparation and planning.We all have busy lives and none of us want to finish our working day and then have to prepare and cook a whole healthy meal for the family. However, if you are trying to lose weight or just improve your health, then having a clean diet the majority of the time is important.
One strategy is to spend a little time each week preparing and cooking some things for the week ahead that will help you make quick, easy and healthy meals and provide me you lots of easy to grab snacks.
Everyone's diet and needs are different but below are a few ideas to help you work out what would work for your family and make your life easier.
#1 Roast a whole chicken
These can be used in sandwiches, soups, salads, stocks and in a million different main dishes.
#2 Boil a dozen eggs
These can be used as snacks, sandwiches and salads.
Freeze in 200-300ml portions for soups and stews.
#4 Make a batch of soup
Use a slow cooker to make up a batch of your favourite soup. Separate into individual servings and can be frozen and defrosted as required.
#5 Chopped crudités
Celery, cucumber, peppers, carrots all cut into sticks in a sealed container, ready for a healthy snack when required.
#6 Bowl of chopped veg
Broccoli, cauliflower, courgette, sugarsnaps etc. all ready to throw into a stir fry or the steamer.
#7 Bowl of lettuce
An assortment of leaves; spinach, rocket, iceberg, kale - all washed and ready to go.
Roast a selection of vegetables, which can be added cold to salads or as a side to a main dish.
#9 Quinoa and brown rice
Cook up a bowl of each to use in salads and a number of main dishes.
Cook up a batch of pancakes, wrap in portions and put in the freezer.
Great dips for easy snacks and lunches.
Great to be added to chicken or fish for an easy tasty dinner.
#13 Nuts, seeds and dried fruit
Separate into snack size portions in little tubs, ready to go.
#14 Salad dressing
Add the ingredients to a clean jar, put the lid on a store in the fridge. Whenever you want to jazz up a salad, give the jar a shake and spoon over.
